Creating Action

Today was a waste project day.  Students are working on their ideas and trying to flesh out next steps.  Ideas are coming together and students are starting to get excited about ideas.
Students looking at wasting energy are going to make an old ceiling fan into a wind turbine.
They are going to make cat and dog toys out of old clothes and plastic bottles.  They called local animal shelters to find out what kinds of toys that they needed.
Here two groups of students are collaborating from different classes on the same project.  Google Apps for the win.

Long Boards

Last year Everett started a kickstarter to build a motorized longboard.  Here is drone video of it in action.  So cool.

A bit crunchy

Discovery has been hoping!
A couple of students decided to make chocolate covered crickets.

I had one and they were crunchy.
Our Bloxels came and a student has started designing.
Student shattered her phone and bought a replacement screen and is fixing it.

Words Words Words

Today we sorted words.  I created a sheet of paper with a list of Physical and Chemical Changes.  The first sort was a free sort they could sort them however they wanted.  The second was by chemical and physical change.
The conversations are great as they talk through what they think each of the words mean.

A Waste Day

Today kids decided on a problem statement for the waste project.  Problem statements are in the form of: We will reduce waste in            by making          .

There was a ton of excitement and energy.  Don't worry I will keep you updated.
I can really go out and look at the garden?

Making a Satement

Today was a waste day.  Students are writing problem statements for the question- How can you reduce waste in your home, school, or community?

Things I Wouldn't Think Of

Here are a few more projects that I thought were cool.
An iPhone charging station.
A phone viewing station
A crown
This is a game.  One student draws and the other sits on this side of the screen and you time how quickly you can guess what they are drawing.

Thinking about Waste

On Friday we brain stormed around the question- How can we reduce waste in our home, school, or community?  I believe in asking questions of students and then getting out of the way for them to solve it.
Ideas flowing
Thinking and Sharing
What space would you use?
We then record our ideas so we can return to them.
