Playing with Words

We worked on Vocab today.  I made them write a Lymeric using the science term.  I. Love. Lymerics.

Have you met Everett?

I first heard about Everett from his sister whom I taught two years ago.  She would go back and tell her brother the projects that I would assign and he would do them.  Everett is a tinkerer, a creator, a maker.  You will see a fair amount of his work in this space.  Soon I will have him write his own post in this space.  Until then:  He is designing a parachute system for his motorized longboard.  We talked and came up with a spring loaded Clorox wipes container as the case.  He then went home and designed a hinged lid on Tinkercad.com.
Our Makerbot fired up with no issues this morning.  I love this machine.  4 years old and still going strong.

Mezmorized waiting for the lid.
His design to go around the container and hold the lid.
Fits like a glove.
The lid will release with a pin mechanism that will pull out a stick and open the container.  Don't worry I will keep you updated.

Our Space

Today we discussed brainstorming and came up with ideas on how to change our space.
Getting ideas down.
S: Can I use Pinterest?
Me: For what?
S: To get ideas for the room
Me: Of course!  You didn't even have to ask.
Drawing the room.
At the board
A plethora of ideas.

Asking questions of each other!

Today we interviewed each other and reported back what we found.  Science will start sometime soon.
A boat load, no a pant load of possible questions.
Taking some notes.
I bought a bike desk for both the students and I to use if we want.  Every hour had some takers.  We will see how it goes.

A New Look at Space

This is our first week back without kids.  Thursday we had a meeting at Steeger and got to see the 6th grade Teachers' newly designed spaces.  Rebecca Hare came in to help reimagine thier classrooms.  Follow Rebecca on Twitter at @RLH_DesignED.  Amazing.
The overhead shot of Kelly's room.
Group work
A cutting and work station.
Tools glorious, tools in Don's room.
A great discussion area in Lisa's space.

We are all designers!

I was asked to present design thinking to an incredible group of educators doing amazing things at Hudson Elementary!  I started with some background on me and then we dove into designing.  Thank you Hudson for having me and being such gracious hosts.
Everyone deep in thought.
Talking it out and sharing ideas.
Digging deeper
Are we actually going to build this?
Prototype completed.
