What is that sound?

We are back to talking about sound.  Students are using garage band to record five sounds and edit them into a song.  We will then manipulate the song to take a look at changes in amplitude and frequency.
Recording the cup crinkle.
Pencil scratching
A drill sound
Taping on the wall

Let Them Play

Friday we went to Hudson to share our games with elementary students.  Thank you Hudson for having us.  It is such an amazing day where the main focus is play.  Play- it's how we first learn about our surroundings.  Play- it crosses age barriers. Play- it allows us to be free and open to learn.  Play- allows us to experiment.  Play-  it allows us to discover the world.

That's A Wrap

After three days of filming we have wrapped.  It was an amazing and scary experience.  We want to thank The Allen Distinguished Educator Program and the folks at Learn Big.

7th Grader Bringing the Making

A 7th grade student came to me the other day asking if I would print some robot arm parts.  Normally we like to print things that kids design.  We made an exception.  The other item he saw an old heat sink in Dempsey's room.  He asked if he could have it and Dempsey said yes.

So cool
Numbers don't lie.

What does PBL look like?

I took a time lapse to share what our space looks like during construction.  There is a buzz and a hum about it.  Everyone is moving projects forward and constructing.  It is an incredible site.

I haven't played this game in years.

Drilling holes for wires
Girls and thier drills.
Never seen this one.
I just used the Pythagorean theorem.

The Smiles are Real

Games are coming along nicely.  We are starting to see some circuits coming together as well.  I love when an idea becomes a reality and "it works!".
The room couldn't contain us.
Painting begins
Soldering continues
Those are spoon paddles for pin-skee ball.
The smiles are real.  The goal is a switch.  When you score a goal it's pushed back and completes the circuit.
